Safety Tips
Effective date: April 27, 2026 Last updated: April 27, 2026
Your Safety Matters
DancingPartners is designed to help you find people who share your love of dance — any style, any level. Most users are genuine and respectful — but meeting people online always carries some risk. These tips can help you stay safe whether you're chatting inside the App or meeting in person for the first time.
Please take a few minutes to read through them before your first date.
1. Before You Meet
Video chat first
Before meeting in person, do a video call — inside the App or on another platform. A video call helps confirm that the person looks like their photos and is who they say they are. Reluctance to video chat, especially combined with excuses that keep changing, is a warning sign.
Research the person
Do a quick internet search of their name and any details they've shared. Consider a reverse image search of their profile photos using Google Images or TinEye. Look for inconsistencies between what they tell you and what you find.
Keep communication inside the App
While you're getting to know someone, keep your conversations within DancingPartners. Moving to a personal phone number or another platform before you've built trust can expose you if things go wrong. Never share your home address, workplace, or full legal name with someone you've just met.
2. Meeting in Person
Meet in a public place
Choose a busy, well-lit venue for your first few meetings — a café, restaurant, or dance studio, not a private home or hotel room. Let a trusted friend or family member know where you're going, who you're meeting, and when to expect you back.
Share your real-time location
Before the date, share your live location with a trusted friend and keep it active until you're safely home. On iPhone, use "Share My Location" in the Find My app. On Android, use Google Maps location sharing.
Arrange your own transport
Drive yourself, take public transit, or use a rideshare service so you can leave independently at any time. Don't get into a private vehicle with someone you don't yet trust.
Stay sober enough to make decisions
Alcohol and other substances impair judgment. Drink moderately and never leave your drink unattended. If you feel suddenly or unusually drowsy or disoriented, trust your instincts and leave immediately.
Have an exit plan
You are always allowed to leave. You don't owe anyone a reason or an apology. Consider asking a trusted friend to call you 30 minutes into the date so you have an easy, graceful way to end the meeting if you're uncomfortable.
3. Warning Signs
Be cautious if someone you've met on the App:
- Asks for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers for any reason, no matter how convincing the story. This is almost always a scam.
- Refuses to video chat or always has a convenient reason to avoid showing their face.
- Escalates emotional intensity very quickly — declarations of love within days of chatting are a classic manipulation technique.
- Only contacts you outside the App or pushes you to move to personal channels right away.
- Tells inconsistent stories — job details, location, family situation that don't add up.
- Discourages you from talking to friends or family about them.
- Asks for explicit photos or videos early in the conversation — this is sometimes used for blackmail (sextortion).
- Profile photos look like stock photos or model shoots — check with a reverse image search.
If something feels wrong, trust your instincts. You can unmatch and report at any time.
4. Online Safety
- Use a strong, unique password for your DancingPartners account.
- Enable two-factor authentication on your email account.
- Never share your account credentials with anyone.
- Log out of the App on any shared or borrowed devices.
- Report suspicious messages even if you're not certain — we'd rather receive a false alarm than miss a real threat.
5. Report Concerns Immediately
If you believe you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 (US) or your local emergency number right away.
For non-emergency concerns about another user on DancingPartners:
- Tap the three-dot menu on their profile.
- Select Report and choose the most relevant reason.
- Add any helpful details and tap Submit.
